FAQs

WHAT ARE CROW’S FEET?

When you laugh, concentrate, frown or squint, the muscles of your face contract.  These years of making facial expressions, combined with environmental and lifestyle factors (i.e. exposure to sunshine, smoking, and/or pollution) cause the formation of lines and wrinkles to appear around the corners of your eyes. The eyes are often the first place to reveal the signs of ageing, as the skin is thinner and more prone to creasing.

The main cause of Crow’s Feet (also known as ‘Laughter Lines’) is a decrease in the amounts of collagen (water retaining protein) and elastin (recoil) in the skin. These proteins are responsible for our skin’s firmness, however, our body’s ability to produce these proteins decreases with age.

Treatment for Crow’s Feet

We offer a number of treatment options to lessen the appearance of Crow’s Feet.  The most appropriate plan for you will be discussed during our comprehensive surgeon-led consultation.

As treatment results and eligibility may vary, please call: 020 7164 6896 to book a consultation.

Your options may include:

Chemical Skin Peels for Crow’s Feet

A chemical formula can be applied to the face, which gradually allows the upper layers of aged skin to peel away, thus reducing fine lines. It is harmless and virtually painless.  Deeper peels can cause a slight tingling sensation, however any discomfort is minimised with our post-treatment spray and appearance maintained with a 50 SPF sun cream.

At Cosmeticology™, we have a range of Dermal Peels that varying in strength depending on the depth of your Crow’s Feet. Results and recovery time can vary in accordance with the type of peel chosen and your skin type.

Anti-Wrinkle/Botox Injections (Botulinum)

Muscles contract due to a sign sent from the brain via nerves.  Botox/Anti-Wrinkle Injections, interrupt this signal, and temporarily ensure the muscles remain in a relaxed state, unable to contract and therefore, unable to crease the skin.

At Cosmeticology™, our medically trained aestheticians will inject a safe solution into the area to be treated with a very fine needle. Administered correctly by anaesthetic practitioner, this can subtly smooth and soften the skin, restoring a natural looking, youthful complexion. Treatment is virtually pain free and requires no recovery time.

Note: Although we have a preference for the type of botulinum toxin we use, at Cosmeticology™, we are happy to administer any preferred brand for an additional fee.  Your practitioner will discuss this with you at your consultation.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers may be considered for deeper, more established Crow’s Feet.

Treatment involves injecting a medically developed solution under the skin with a fine needle to plump and fill lines and grooves.

At Cosmeticology™, we prefer to use a product called which contains Hyaluronic Acid.

This product is found naturally in the body and therefore we use this product to replace the naturally existing substance in your skin that repairs damaged tissue which may have been lost, leading to loss of volume. However, we are able to use any suitable product that our clients may prefer.  Please discuss this with your Clinician during your consultation.

ACNE

Acne is a condition caused by blockage of the oil producing glands which lie within the skin. This can cause inflammation and scarring which may be permanent. An effective solution for this form of complaint is to perform dermal peels.

Using a course of dermal peels, the layers of skin affected by scarring can be smoothed out and new skin allowed to regenerate in its place. This would help flatten out scars and in many remove them completely.

This treatment is particularly suited to those who do not have active acne or active cystic acne with no breakage of the skin. Benefit is seen in those who have had acne which has now healed and left behind formed scarring.

Your aesthetician will take a history from you and examine your skin to assess your suitability for undertaking a chemical peel and the depth of peel required. The number of courses required will also vary based on the level of scarring and the end result required by the patient.

WHAT ARE FOREHEAD LINES?

Raising your eyebrows, concentrating, squinting or frowning – whenever you move your face your forehead muscles contract.  The combination of years of making facial expressions combined with environmental and lifestyle factors (i.e. exposure to sunshine, smoking, and/or pollution) cause lines and wrinkles to form.

The main cause of forehead lines is a decrease in the amounts of collagen and elastin in the skin. These proteins are responsible for our skin’s elasticity, however, our body’s ability to produce these proteins decreases.

No longer just signs of old age, our clients report forehead furrows appearing as early as their 20s, giving them a stressed or worried look.

Treatments for Forehead Lines

At Cosmeticology™, we offer a number of treatments to lessen the appearance of forehead lines.  The most appropriate treatment plan for you will be discussed during our comprehensive surgeon-led consultation.

As treatment results and eligibility may vary, please call: 020 7164 6896 to book a consultation.

Your options may include:

Chemical Skin Peels for Forehead Lines

For fine lines, a chemical formula can be applied to the face, which gradually allows the upper layers of aged skin to peel away. It is harmless and, certainly for the milder peels, painless. Deeper peels can cause a slight burning sensation, a bit like sunburn.  This is minimised with our post-treatment creams.

Dermal Peels leave a smoother complexion, with forehead lines being reduced or eliminated entirely. There are different strengths of medical grade peels depending on the depth of your forehead lines.  Results and recovery time will vary according to the type of peel chosen.

Anti-Wrinkle/Botox Injections

Muscles contract due to a sign sent from the brain via nerves.  Botox/Anti-Wrinkle Injections, interrupt this signal, and force the muscles to remain in a relaxed state, unable to contract and therefore, unable to crease the skin.

At Cosmeticology™, our specially trained clinicians will inject a solution into the area to be treated with a fine needle. Administered correctly by a medical practitioner, this can subtly smooth and soften the skin, restoring a natural looking, youthful complexion. Treatment is virtually pain free and requires no recovery time.

Note: Although we have a preference for the type of botulinum toxin we use, at Cosmeticology™, we are happy to administer any preferred brand for an additional fee.  Your clinician will discuss this with you at your consultation.

Dermal Fillers

For deeper, more established forehead lines, Dermal Fillers may be considered. Treatment involves injecting a medically developed solution under the skin with a fine needle to plump and fill lines and grooves.

At Cosmeticology™, we use a solution which contains Hyaluronic Acid to replace the naturally existing substance in your skin that repairs damaged tissue.

MASSETERS

Also known as ‘Jowls’, this treatment refers to the bulky appearance to the jawline that may give a fuller appearance.

The muscle, known medically as the masseter, is one of the muscles associated eating (mastication). Sometimes this muscle is swollen (hypertrophic) and can give the appearance of a square or prominent lower jawline.

As treatment results and eligibility may vary, please call: 020 7164 6896 to book a consultation.

Treatment for Sagging Jowls

Anti-Wrinkle/Botox Injections

The use of Botox injections in this region aims to slow down the contracting and activity of this muscle which over time allows the bulkiness to reduce giving a smoother appearance to the jawline. This treatment usually has no bearing on the ability of an individual to eat and drink.

LAUGHTER LINES

Although laughter is the best medicine, the lines it causes around your eyes and mouth can add years to your appearance. Whenever you move your face your muscles contract. After years of frequent contraction, combined with environmental and lifestyle factors, (such as exposure to sunshine, smoking or pollution – in other words, ‘life’) lines and wrinkles begin to form around your mouth and eyes. (The eyes are often the first place to reveal the signs of ageing, as the skin is thinner and more prone to creasing).

The main cause of Laughter Lines is due to a decrease of collagen and elastin in the skin. These proteins are responsible for our skin’s elasticity, but production drops as we age. The best way to postpone the appearance of these lines is to use an SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, avoid smoking, drink plenty of water and follow a good skincare routine, particularly one with a deep acting moisturiser.

At Cosmeticology™ we offer the most advanced technology and treatments to target Laughter Lines, without the need for invasive surgery. We pride ourselves on achieving a ‘No-Trace Face’, and offer a highly personalised plan and post-treatment review.

NOSE-TO- MOUTH LINES (Nasolabial fold)

Medically known as nasolabial lines, nose-to-mouth lines run from the corner of the nostrils down to the corner of the mouth. Deepening over time, they appear as the facial skin and supportive structures of the cheek become lax from ageing. Repeated smiling also makes these lines more pronounced – something that nobody should want to stop doing!

Nose-to-mouth lines are normal and an inevitable sign of ageing, but they can cause the face to look tired and sagging, adding years to your appearance. Ironically, after all that smiling, some clients say they also feel they look permanently miserable. The best way to postpone the appearance of these lines is to use an SPF to protect your skin from harmful UV rays, avoid smoking, drink plenty of water and follow a good skincare routine, particularly one with a deep acting moisturiser.

At Cosmeticology™, we offer the most advanced technology and treatments to target Nose-to-Mouth lines, without the need for invasive surgery. We pride ourselves on achieving a ‘No-Trace Face’, and offer a highly personalised plan and post-treatment review.

Treatments for Nose to Mouth Lines

Dermal Fillers

For deeper, more established Nose to Mouth lines, Dermal Fillers may be considered. With near immediate results (they develop from 48 hours following treatment) lasting up to 12 months, treatment involves injecting a medically-developed solution under the skin with a fine needle to plump and fill lines and grooves.

The treatment adds volume to facial contours which may have been lost through the natural ageing process.

Cosmeticology™ use products made from biocompatible, biodegradable materials, including Hyaluronic Acid, which replaces the naturally existing substance in your skin that repairs damaged tissue.

PIGMENTATION

Pigmentation can be defined as the colouration of the skin. Our body contains a pigment called melanin which determines the colour of our skin. Darker skin types will have more melanin in their skin cells than those with lighter skin.

When skin cells are healthy, your skin will appear normal and even. However, when skin cells become damaged or unhealthy, extra melanin is produced to help protect your skin. Alternatively, the cells that produce pigment can be damaged, which prevents melanin production. As a result, parts of your skin may turn lighter (hypopigmentation) or darker (hyperpigmentation), both of which are recognisable skin conditions.

Pigmentation can occur for a variety of reasons including over exposure to the sun, genetics, hormonal changes, medical conditions and trauma to the skin (such as burns or as a result of spots and picking). The effects can also become more obvious as we age and if left untreated and unprotected can worsen.

It is important to help protect the skin from damage; wearing an SPF50 on a daily basis can defend against harmful UVA and UVB rays which may worsen pigmentation. A healthy lifestyle and an effective skincare routine can also help clear the skin.

Using products which contain sulforaphane such as our brightening cream, will help lighten pigmentation. You can also use an exfoliator that includes glycolic acid; an active ingredient that removes dead skin cells and lightens dark marks.

At Cosmeticology™, we offer a range of treatments which can help with pigmentation, giving your skin a brighter and clearer look.

As treatment results and eligibility may vary, please call: 020 7164 6896 to book a consultation.

Treatments for Pigmentation

Chemical Skin Peels

There are a number of skin peels that are designed to treat pigmentation for your skin type and tone. The treatment involves applying a non-toxic chemical to the skin to encourage natural exfoliation and remove imperfections. As dead skin cells are removed, pigmentation is reduced.

WHAT IS SUN DAMAGED SKIN?

The UK is a nation of sun-lovers, but your skin pays the price of overexposure to UV rays. Too much time in the sun without sun protection can result in unstable moles and even skin cancer, so it’s important to stay protected and have regular skin check-ups.

Even if you do manage to avoid serious skin conditions, prolonged sun exposure plays havoc with your skin in later life. UVA sunlight stimulates your pigment cells, called melanocytes, to produce more melanin.

Melanin gives the skin its colour, but can also cause unwanted dark patches called age spots. UV rays are also responsible for up to 95 per cent of the signs of ageing, including premature wrinkles, slacker skin and an uneven skin tone.

As is often the case, prevention is better than cure. The best way to postpone sun damage is to use an SPF50 daily to protect your skin from harmful UV rays – whether in the sun or not, as UVA light levels can cause damage throughout the year.

Treatments for Sun Damaged Skin

We offer a number of treatment options to lessen the appearance of sun damage. To choose the best plan for you for noticeable results, we highly recommend you attend a free, no obligation consultation. During your consultation your aesthetic practitioner might discuss:

Chemical Skin Peels

Our skin peels work deep in the lower layers of the skin, erasing the unwanted areas of pigmentation caused by sun exposure to reveal a clear complexion. During treatment you might feel a slight burning sensation, a bit like sunburn. But with our soothing pre and post-application creams, any discomfort is minimised.

WHAT IS EXCESS SWEATING?

Excess sweating is medically known as hyperhidrosis and is often a very debilitating, embarrassing condition, causing a person to sweat excessively and much more than the body needs to in order to regulate its temperature. It is fairly common in the UK, with a suspected one million sufferers.

The most commonly affected area is the underarms, comprising 50 percent of reported cases. However, hyperhidrosis can affect many parts of the body, including hands, feet and the face.

At Cosmeticology™ we offer the most advanced technology and treatments to beat excessive sweating. A consultation with our aesthetic practitioner who will build your personal treatment plan.

As treatment results and eligibility may vary, please call: 020 7164 6896 to book a consultation.

Treatment for Excess Sweating

Botox Injections

An injection of this protein preparation into the area to be treated is currently the most effective, clinically proven treatment available. Injected in very small doses it blocks the nerves that supply the eccrine (sweat) glands, preventing them from producing sweat. The treatment takes only 30-45 minutes.

WHY ARE MY LIPS THIN?

While some people may have naturally thin lips, they can also be a sign of ageing or result from smoking. As you get older the collagen in your lips breaks down and the muscles tire, leaving your lips looking and feeling thinner. This can also lead to wrinkles around the lips. Many people feel self-conscious about their lips – talking, eating, drinking; if you don’t actually like the look of them, they’re impossible to hide.

To choose the best plan for you for natural looking, yet noticeable results, during your consultation, your medical practitioner might discuss:

Chemical Skin Peels for around the Eyes

For fine lines, a chemical formula can be applied around the eyes, which gradually allows the upper layers of aged skin to peel away. It is harmless and, certainly for the milder peels, painless. Deeper peels can cause a slight burning sensation, a bit like sunburn. But with our soothing pre and post-application creams, any discomfort is minimised.

The peels leave a smoother complexion, with wrinkles and lines around the eyes being reduced or eliminated entirely. There are different strengths of Medical Grade Peels. Results and downtime vary according to the type of peel you and your skincare professional choose.

Botox Injections

The muscles around your eyes contract due to a signal sent from the brain via nerves. Non-surgical Anti-Ageing injections work by interrupting this signal, leaving the muscles relaxed and unable to crease the skin. Working under the strictest regulation in the UK, exceeding all mandatory and voluntary regulations, at Cosmeticology™, an aesthetic practitioner will inject a medically developed solution commonly known as botulinum into the area to be treated with a fine needle.

Administered correctly by a medical practitioner, this can subtly smooth and soften the skin, restoring a natural looking, youthful complexion. Treatment is virtually pain free and requires no downtime.

Dermal Fillers

For deeper, more established lines and wrinkles around the eyes, Dermal Fillers may be considered. Treatment involves injecting a medically developed solution under the skin with a fine needle to plump and fill lines and grooves.

At Cosmeticology™, we use a solution which contains Hyaluronic Acid to replace the naturally existing substance in your skin that repairs damaged tissue.

WHAT IS A GUMMY SMILE?

Causes of gummy smile include:

  • Over elevation of the muscle of the upper lip
  • The upper lip and the gums are closely joined
  • Excessive gum tissue

Non-invasive treatment for Gummy Smiles

If you have a low or uneven gum line, then Cosmeticology will sculpt and contour your upper lip to achieve a subtle but effective improvement and help transform your appearance and give you smile you’ve always dreamed of.

An over-developed upper lip elevation muscle(Elevator LabiiSuperioris Muscle) can be mildly weakened with a few small injections of botulinum. This ensures that the elevator muscle contracts less powerfully so that the upper lip isn’t lifted as high upon smiling meaning that your gums are less exposed when you smile and natural facial expressions remain the same.
